You don’t get to the Olympics on accident.
Happy President’s Day everyone! That’s right it is another holiday, yet many people are stuck at work today. If you’re not, it might be a fair bet can bet that your competitors are! Even both of you are not physically at work, it’s still a possibility that you are loosing your edge right now.
I’m not saying that we should all ignore social responsibilities and go become obsessive workaholics. What I am trying to get at here is that a day of rest and relaxation doesn’t have to mean that you have to lose your place in work.
In my experience, when you take off a personal day or otherwise get out off track mentally, it will take you some time to get refocused again. Once you lose one day, it can easily melt into two.
I’m sure you can already see the connection that I am going to make toward the Olympic athletes. They train every day in order to make it there. Rain or shine, you can bet that they are training. They are out there lifting weights, doing laps, jogging, studying turns, or practicing jumps.
It is no accident that they are in the Olympics; they worked hard every day. Future stars are out there training right now for the 2010 winter games. People are training for the 2008 summer games, and some are getting a jump on the 2012 summer games.
So even if you aren’t an athlete, you can certainly take a lesson from them. Don’t let a day go to waste, and always go for the gold.
