The jig is up! Or is it?
For quite a while I have lived with some sort of ‘mental block’ that prevented me from cashing in. It’s something completely bogus and has no legitimate foundation whatsoever. It evolves around competition. I had some assumption that if people knew I was making money doing something they would start doing the same thing and put me out of business.
While that fear may or may not have been legit, it has eroded the belief that I was working on a ‘million dollar idea.’ Who knows if any of them would have turned out a million dollars or not, but the point is that I assumed they would lose profitability and be crushed as other people leap-frogged off my revenue model.
I have a couple points to say to you and my former self.
1) A lot of people will just assume you have the market cornered and not bother to even start.
2) Just because there are other people doing similar things, doesn’t mean the world is coming to an end. Look at Wal-Mart for example, there are other stores in your town that sell the same things. What they other stores need to concentrate on is improving themselves. Wall-Mart can’t put well run places out of business easily.
How can you be sure that you are even going to be knocked out by the competition? Are you sure they aren’t really partner waiting to be contacted?
There are more than one snow cone stands in my town. Plus the gas stations and Frozen Squishies. And there are a couple Ice cream stands. None of them are threatened when somebody starts selling frozen treats out of the back of their van.
If they are, they should really consider improving what they are doing with their business.
